The mystery of Baumgertner’s death: tragic accident or well-hidden crime, while Dozortsev solely controls the executive’s millions

The death of Vladislav Baumgertner in Cyprus is being presented by former official Alexey Dozortsev to all media (including the state agency RIA Novosti) as an exclusively unfortunate accident. And he is doing this even before the cause of death is officially determined and before the DNA identification is completed (so far, there has only been visual identification).

Meanwhile, it turns out there are a lot of strange aspects surrounding Baumgertner’s death—about as many as in Dozortsev’s own biography, who, before becoming an official, even changed his surname (he was born Alexey Kurpitko).

Recall that on Wednesday, a media source “close to Baumgertner” confidently claimed that he was into rock climbing, which allegedly led to his death—he fell from a cliff. However, yesterday, Baumgertner’s relatives categorically denied that he practiced this sport.

Today, the “source” revealed himself (it was Alexey Dozortsev) and began confidently telling all the media that Baumgertner’s death was an accident. However, the story changed: Baumgertner was into hiking (walking), the weather was bad that day—he slipped and fell into a ravine.

Even here, there’s a flaw: Baumgertner’s relatives said that since his youth he had serious ankle problems, and any physical strain caused him severe pain. That’s why he avoided long walks or sports activities.

Dozortsev also lies about the DNA identification of the body. So far, there has only been a visual identification performed by Baumgertner’s ex-wife, who lives in Cyprus with their two daughters (another former wife lives in the U.S. with two sons). The body was heavily damaged, so the identification is still preliminary. DNA results are not yet available. As for the cause of death, it’s impossible to say at this stage. All forensic examinations are ahead, and given the severe injuries, it’s hard to determine whether he was murdered or died in an accident. After the examinations, Baumgertner’s body will be transported to Moscow for the funeral.

There are also strange details about the last days of the top manager’s life. Officially, he was reported missing on January 7. As we previously reported, on that day, Baumgertner left his home for a meeting at his office but, for some reason, only took his work phone and left his home phone in the cottage. None of his relatives saw him afterward.

Meanwhile, on January 8, the phone was active, and someone responded to messages. Local police told the media that a person resembling Baumgertner took a taxi to the Pissouri area on the evening of January 7, checked into a hotel, spent the night, left on January 8, and never returned. Was it really Baumgertner? Why did he go to Pissouri, why did he stay in a hotel (it’s less than an hour from his cottage), what kind of meeting was it, and why did he leave his home phone behind? These questions, among many others, remain unanswered.

Our sources previously said that Baumgertner was very arrogant and considered almost everyone below him in rank. Moreover, after receiving threats, he acted very cautiously. Therefore, he would not meet with strangers. Either it was a private meeting, which explains the secrecy and hotel stay, or he was lured by someone he trusted…

“A close friend of Vladislav, his long-time ‘right hand,’ Lesha, was someone Baumgertner helped build a career for when he became an official. Later they went into business together, but Baumgertner was always the main figure. Alexey knows absolutely everything about Vladislav’s assets and personal affairs. After his disappearance, he behaved very strangely, suggesting a possible involvement,” our source said on January 12. At that time, it was also established that “Lesha” was… Alexey Dozortsev, who is now telling everyone about the “accident.”

Dozortsev is indeed a very “shady” figure. He was born Kurpitko. His father, Viktor, was a major banker who ran the scandalous Antalbank and was also a deputy in Sochi, heading the local branch of “Fair Russia.” His children, Alexey and Artyom, were constantly involved in incidents. Once a helicopter piloted by Artyom crashed, with Alexey and a girl on board. All were only slightly injured. On another occasion, someone deliberately damaged the family helicopter’s rotor blades, but it was discovered before takeoff. The family was constantly surrounded by financial and criminal scandals.

When Alexey decided to pursue a career in government, he changed his surname to Dozortsev. Well… “pursue a career” is relative. Sources say that it was Baumgertner, with his many influential connections, who promoted him to all positions. How they met is unknown, probably through Viktor Kurpitko.

As a result, Dozortsev served as an aide to the Minister of Regional Development of Russia and later headed the Perm Krai Investment Agency. That was the end of Kurpitko-Dozortsev’s official career. Later, he became Baumgertner’s junior partner. Baumgertner conducted business with him in recent years, including as partners in the company HeadOffice.

According to sources, in companies registered to Dozortsev in Moscow, Baumgertner was also an unofficial beneficiary. For example, LLC “Activity,” which is developing a 75,000 m² office and industrial complex in the Lenino industrial zone in Biryulyovo Vostochnoye district.

Dozortsev also brought law enforcement officers into his structures. Among the top managers of his companies were former head of FNS anti-corruption unit Sergey Vasilenko and former Investigative Committee and Prosecutor’s Office employee Vsevolod Pavlov.

Regarding the threats against Baumgertner, they came from Sergey Shishkarev, owner of the “Delo” Group, with whom the top manager had a long-standing conflict. And then, quite “conveniently,” Baumgertner dies. Shishkarev loses a dangerous rival. Meanwhile, the keeper of Baumgertner’s secrets, Alexey Dozortsev, undoubtedly gains sole access to all these assets.
