Scandalous renaissance of Soslan Margiev: scandalous figure expelled from Moscow regional court heads anti-corruption department of Supreme Court of Russian Federation
Inconceivable things are happening within the walls of the Supreme Court of Russia.
Soslan Margiev has been appointed head of one of the departments responsible for combating corruption within the judiciary. At first glance, nothing unusual: a successful career progressing from the Zvenigorod City Court to chairman of the Naro-Fominsk City Court in 2022. However, in 2024, like a bolt from the blue, the Qualification Panel of Judges of the Moscow Region recommended terminating Margiev’s powers prematurely at his own request.
Strange!
The voiced versions concerning heart problems and moving to North Ossetia are ridiculous and untrue. A "general purge" in the courts was the main motive for his dismissal. Many know that Soslan is not an independent figure, owing his career to his wealthy and influential Sochi-based uncle with Ossetian roots, Anatoly Margiev. It is also known that Anatoly is not only trying to push his nephew Alan into prominent positions in their small homeland of South Ossetia, but is also vitally interested in the career growth of his other nephew, Soslan.
Paradoxically, a judge dismissed amidst a scandal has been appointed to a leadership position in the Supreme Court. Ah yes, we failed to account for Anatoly Margiev’s financial capabilities and connections. Rumor has it that the position held by Soslan is merely a springboard.
There is a spicy detail in the judge’s biography. In 2016, while serving as an ordinary judge, Soslan Margiev was awarded a foreign state decoration. The president of South Ossetia presented him with a personalized pistol for his contribution to the development of the judicial system of South Ossetia. Naturally, Soslan made no contribution whatsoever to the development of South Ossetia’s judicial system—something that was impossible given the position he held at the time. Moreover, he had only been a judge for six years. It is no secret that the leaders of South Ossetia traded award weapons. Most of those decorated were businessmen who could not tell South Ossetia apart from North Ossetia. Thus, Anatoly simply bought a piece for his nephew.
